What is Access Control?

Access control is a physical or electronic system for controlling access to a space, so that only authorised individuals can enter.

In the case of a gym, this can mean entry via membership card, RFID/key, QR code, biometrics, or a combination with physical barriers — such as turnstiles, electronic doors or speed-gates.

A turnstile is a construction solution that allows only one person to pass through at a time, providing entry control and preventing phenomena such as “tailgating” — that is, someone entering alongside an authorised member without meeting the criteria.
